Candle Care Tips

The following instructions is specifically for our jar candles..scroll below for pillar candle instructions.

How to get the maximum burn time from your JAR candle:

SOY WAX has a ‘MEMORY’
  • The first time you burn your candle, let it burn for 3-4 hours so that it burns all the way to the edge of the container.
  • This will set the ‘candle memory’ so that it burns to the edge each burn
  • This means you'll get the maximum burn time from your candle
  • And left over wax on the sides, or what’s referred to as ‘tunnelling'
  • Never burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.
  • Always burn on a heat resistant surface.

TRIM the WICK
  • Regularly trim your wick before each burn to 0.7mm
  • This will avoid your wick ‘mushrooming’ and falling in to your wax.
  • It also means you get the maximum burn time from your candle and no soot and black marks left on your containers

END of CANDLE
  • STOP burning with 10mm of wax left to prevent glass cracking
  • Wash out your container with warm soapy water and re-use!
  • JUMP back on our website and order another candle....or two :)

How to get the maximum burn time from your PILLAR candle:

Lamp on a Hill Candle Co recommends using our candle moulds as decorative designer pieces around the home. However, if you decide to burn your candle, we advise burning it on a flat surface and using a large heatproof dish as melted wax is unpredictable. If not burning, we still recommend using a dish as the wax may stain furniture.

Do not leave your candle in direct heat or sunlight as it may cause discolouration. Once lit, never leave your candle unattended and burn out of reach of children and pets. Do not burn a candle on or near anything flammable.

ALWAYS trim the wick to 1/2 cm before each lighting.
